Credit Card Collection company (2 part question)?

I recieved a call from a bill collector today about a credit card I defaulted on about 2 years ago. She said it is pending lawsuit and wants to make arrangements with me to "help me" pay it off. Yeah, right.

Anyways, here are my 2 questions. About a year ago I made the mistake of trying to make payments to the previous collection agency that had the account and couldn’t keep up with them so I cancelled them. I know that screwed me with the SOL (didn’t realize it at the time) but the payments were made from my checking account and now I’m worried that this new agency has my checking account info. I plan on telling them I don’t have an account and will pay by money order if we come to some arrangement. Will my previously paying with my checking account hurt me?

And secondly, with the economy my hours have been cut at work and I have fallen behind on other cards. I’m wondering if anyone has used Consumer Credit Counseling Services (they are non-profit and seem legitimate from what I’ve read and yes, I’m aware they still charge a fee). So any comments on that would be great.

Thanks!

If you have bad credit, don’t pay any of them ever. It’s called UNSECURED credit for a reason, they can’t take anything from you because you owe them money. The Credit Card companies will be the next big economic collapse.
